We are experts in developing and implementing comprehensive brand protection programs to combat piracy, and we help clients investigate and mitigate losses from online or hard goods piracy to the fullest extent possible. We conduct all types of investigations, pursue litigation strategies, and implement unique, non-traditional programs that reduce losses while avoiding the expenses of judicial processes.

By strategically relying on federal laws, such as the copyright and trademark laws or the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, and state laws such as trademark and true name and address statutes, we can effectively develop anti-piracy enforcement programs tailored to a client's individual needs.

James W. Spertus was one of the founding members of the Computer Crimes and Intellectual Property Section of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California, and he spent many years as a computer crimes and intellectual property specialist supervising complex investigations involving trade secret theft, computer intrusions, and intellectual property theft.  He also pursued numerous cases involving novel and untested legal theories that set precedents for similar cases throughout the country.  After leaving the United States Attorney’s Office, Mr. Spertus became a Vice President of the Motion Picture Association of America and was Director of United States Anti-Piracy Operations.

With our depth of experience, we can:

Identify and investigate infringers
Obtain writs of seizure, injunctions and/or restraining orders
Coordinate programs to shut down piracy operations contractually
without incurring the costs of judicial process, such as with voluntary
surrender programs and stipulated judgments
Tailor anti-piracy programs to fit a client's individualized
needs and budget
